The recent 6-0 whitewash in the UK has left India's T20I team in a state of flux, with Suryakumar Yadav's future in the national side uncertain. Despite his impressive leadership and batting prowess, Yadav's omission from the team has sparked debate and speculation. Ravichandran Ashwin, a former India spinner, believes that Yadav should not be written off just yet. In his YouTube channel, Ashwin expressed his opinion that Yadav can still make a comeback through strong performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. However, he also acknowledged the uncertain nature of Yadav's return due to the manner of his exit from the team.
One of the key issues that contributed to India's defeat was the lack of adjustment from players against spinners and a glut of left-handers in the batting order. Suryakumar Yadav, a right-handed batter, would theoretically solve both of these problems. However, to make the selectors rethink their call, Yadav will need to put up extraordinary performances on the domestic circuit or the IPL. Moreover, it was new skipper Shreyas Iyer who replaced Yadav, and the latter won't just be able to do a straightforward swap again.
Yadav will need to show that he's good enough for a role at number three (Ishan Kishan's spot at the moment) or number five (Tilak Varma's spot). This is a challenging task, as the team's current playing 11 is already well-established. Nevertheless, Ashwin's opinion that Yadav can still make a comeback is a positive sign for the player and his supporters. The question remains whether Yadav can regain his form and reclaim his place in the national side, or if he will have to wait for another opportunity to prove his worth.
